Searching for construction project management software returns two things: affiliate listicles ranking twenty products the author never ran a project in, and vendor pages (like ours — Ofivio Build lives in this market and this article will say so plainly when it is relevant). What is scarce is a map of the CATEGORIES, because the products in this space are not interchangeable — they are built around different atoms.
The categories, by what they optimise for
Enterprise construction platforms
The Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud class optimises for large general contractors running many simultaneous projects with dedicated back-office staff: RFIs, submittals, drawing coordination and integrations at organisational scale. They are excellent at that, priced for it, and typically adopted with an implementation budget rather than a signup form.
Field apps
The Fieldwire and Raken class optimises for the site itself: plans on phones, punch lists, daily logs. Fast to adopt and genuinely liked by site teams — with the trade-off that money (BOQ, procurement, payment) usually lives in other systems, and the gap between field record and commercial record remains yours to bridge.
Scheduling tools
Primavera and Microsoft Project optimise for the programme: critical-path planning, resources, float. Indispensable on large contracts, and silent about everything else — a schedule knows the slab is late but not what it cost.
Generic project tools
Asana, Trello, ClickUp and their kin optimise for tasks that are words. They are cheap and familiar, and they know nothing about quantities, stores, certificates or retention — construction admin ends up living in attachments, which is a filing cabinet with extra steps.
Integrated construction management
